These days Venice hosts the Carnival. The Venice Carnival 2011 was inspired by romantic theme of nineteenth century. The Carnival started Saturday, 19th of February in Piazza San Marco in Venice and will continue till 8th of March.
On the occasion of the 150th anniversary of the unification of Italy, Venice is tempting to seek femininity of the heroines in the nineteenth century, to whom he dedicates his carnival, a new life with which downplay the clashes at the time.
The Venice Carnival celebrated from the XIII century and considered the most famous carnival in Europe.
Each year, more than half a million tourists come to Venice for carnival activities – including participation in them. Venice Carnival offers the oldest festival – Festa delle Marie, which is dedicated to the liberation of the Venetian girls who were abducted by pirates from Istria.
On the main square of San Marco arranged presentation style commedia dell’arte. In urban areas with concerts, fireworks, in theaters put on plays on the theme of the carnival, the ancient palaces of the city are given balls, masquerades.
Yesterday, Saturday departed the traditional Feast of Marie, in remembrance of when the Doge endowed, every year, and twelve beautiful maidens of humble ducal jewels for their wedding. It ‘a unique opportunity to admire the beautiful clothes Venetians, with the parade of young girls accompanied by numerous historical groups.
Today, 27th of February at 12.00 in Piazza San Marco, “the Angel” executed the exciting flight, wearing a traditional dress in theme, from the top of the bell tower of San Marco to the center of the square, greeted by a crowded audience in costume.
The Best Mask will be awarded Sunday, March 6th on the stage in Piazza San Marco. Will be considered for selection, made by a jury of experts, the colors, the originality, beauty, and how to wear it.
